Homework; Analysis of Se7en and The Godfather (Not finished)

Se7en Analysis- The opening of the film is a quick cut from black to picture. The picture is a extreme close up of a book which suggests that the 'story' has just begun. It then follows a quick close up of painting of 2 hands which seen to be of an old person but the fingers look abnormal. The cut after this is very fast which could have been done to show the audience that they do not need to worry about what the painting means. The opening has lots of different shots which have very fast paced cuts which shows a creepy and different side to the film. The mise en scene throughout the film can be described as very dull, dark and gloomy, this gives a feel of horror or a thriller. For the opening scene there is a lot of non diegetic sound added which all goes with the images and writing shown on the screen. The opening is not very clear on the narrative as there is no dialogue or narration which makes the audience want to watch on and keeps the audience very engaged. Throughout the opening we see disturbing images such as such as really scruffy and dirty looking fingernails which shows that a man has been working very hard, because we see him making something by cutting up pieces of paper and sellotaping it together. In a way, all the shots are repeated in a quick way which has the effect of id blinking twice very fast. The GodFather Analysis- The opening of this film starts of with a cut from black to picture of what we think is the main character saying a quote that could be the main storyline for the film. The quote is "I believe in America..." which is his opinion. The shot is a close up of the character speaking because this shows his facial expressions while he speaks. The continuity shot slowly zooms out of main character who is getting emotional. At the end of the scene we realise that he is talking to others across the table that we cannot see the faces of. The setting of the scene seems to be in a very dark room, where it seems that many other men are accompanied by him.
