Analysis of Harry Potter; The Prisoner of Azkaban Opening Seqeunce

Mise En Scene
This whole opening sequence has very dark colours which shows the audience that the movie itself will be dark and in a way scary. We can see that the main character is the one who is trying to get light but from most of his attempts fails. This could represent that throughout the film, he is the one who has to be the 'hero' and save everything.  The design of the scene seems to be magical because we see the main character saying magic spells and and doing magic. This gives off the theme of the movie. Once the title sequence has ended the setting and atmosphere seems to be much more positive as there is lots more lighting used and more dialogue. This could suggest that the throughout the film there are nastily aspects but towards the end there is a happy positive feeling.

Editing
The opening sequence of Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban The first cut is from black to picture which is done in a way in which a torch light is switched on and off that shows the picture revealing but very slowly. In the background there is music playing which makes the audience want to focus more on what's actually going on. There are a lot of special effects used such as the light appearing from the wand and the fact that we see a owl on the drawer top.

Sound
From the very beginning of the trailer there is non diegetic sound. It sounds as if someone is trying to do something but keeps getting interrupted which is what is actually happening and we see once the cut goes to picture. In the opening there is more non diegetic sound used, but eventually it is just the narrative that we can hear. During 1.00-1.10 the sound goes very well with the special effects used which could've been done to show how it is a magical film with lots of other effects. The diegetic sound is something that we would really find in a normal household.

Camera
There are lots of different shot angles used throughout the opening. The opening sequence starts of with a zoom into the household where we are introduced to the main character. We then see the title sequence which eventually brings us back into the room of harry potter. Most of the filming is panning which shows us a real life feel of the household and really brings  us closer to the characters.
