9 Frame Analysis for Abandoned Camp.

KEYNOTE-
Slide One- Question 1; In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Slide Two- 9 Frame Analysis.

Slide Three- Image One; (Left, writing on the right)
This is of our Distribution company, which we came up up; it is a simple logo, with the text Dinner Plate Studios, however the hands show the thriller/horror genre, because they seen to have come up for some 'help'. This is a convention of the opening of a film, as the first thing which should be seen is the distributing logo/name.

Slide Four- Image Two; (Left, writing on the right)
From the name of our film, Abandoned Cam, it can be assumed that the majority of it is going to be filmed outside; therefore this can be seen as our establishing shot, which is a long shot. From our research, a normal convention a an opening of a film is establishing the platform/scene. It is also seen to introduce the narrative, or the plot. With this certain image, it is easily identifiable as being a forest, not a park, which puts an eerie fell to what our genre is.

Slide Five- Image Three; (Left, writing on the right)
This image shows the introduction of our protagonist, David, who is looking around, seeing what is going on around him, while the other members of his group are chatting away. It gives an insight to his personality.  This is another convention of an opening trailer to a film, because it has shots, one by one, of the main characters, which includes protagonist and antagonists, then slowly has other shots of the least important, but mainly throughout the film characters.

Slide Six- Image Four; (Left, writing on the right)
Also, throughout research of conventions of an opening, it was seen that from a certain shot, you can tell that the narrative has begun. This image shows that, as our protagonist is on his own, and from it being an extreme long shot, from a birds eye view, it shows something unexpected is about to happen.

Slide Seven- Image Five; (Left, writing on the right)
This image develops conventions used, such a building up suspence, in order to see what the main storyline could be.

Slide Eight- Image Six; (Left, writing on the right)
We have developed the convention of having a key event that will take place, which can be seen through this image. Our protagonist here, has already been identified, as he is the one who discovers the male that is bleeding from his neck. The storyline has clearly changed to what it may have seemed to be at the beginning.

Slide Nine- Image Seven; (Left, writing on the right)
We have challenged the convention of non diegetic sound because we believed that within our opening trailer, it would have made sense to have minimal instrumental or background sound because we were shooting in a forest, and it would seem more realistic. From this image realism can be seen, as the campers are panicking, and looking for signal. There is diegetic sound, where campers breathing and looking around can be heard.

Slide Ten- Image Eight; (Left, writing on the right)

Slide 11- Image Nine; (Left, writing on the right)
The last shot seen after the 2 minute opening is the title of the film; Abandoned Camp. We used the final convention used in a opening trailer of a film, which is the films name. The specific titling, matches the background, and the storyline of this film.

Slide 12- Fade to black.

Record this, within keynote, with a desired time for each slide, export using quicktime.

(I decided to use a variety of shot types within these 9 frames because it would show the aspect and the meaning of the film from different viewpoints.)

Evaluation on Titling (Include for Question 6)

Instead of looking back on the final picture picture edit for Abandoned Camp, i decided to look back on the process of our titling because it wasn't the simple text used within IMovie. During our production of Abandoned Camp, we had already discussed where we would want our titling to go. After watching some examples of opening sequences for films, we had come up with the idea of having titling appearing on trees as the opening progressed.
However, as we began our editing process, we realised that the titles were supposed to be on the screen for a certain period of time, in order to show recognition for not only our cast members, but the production team behind Abandoned Camp therefore only a certain amount of titles appear on trees, the others are placed within bushes.
We decided to use Keynote in order to get different types of titles; but because of our earlier decision of wanting the titles to be placed on top of the footage, we had a problem, because this seemed impossible  After some thought, we figured on using the green screen for the titles to easily show on top of our chosen footage.

 We had to specifically choose certain places on keynote where we wanted it to be during the opening. We uploaded over 50 different titles, because most of the times, the titling would clash ad wouldn't show up. The colours we chose were red and black. Red is to connote blood, a main convention of a horror/vampire genre film. Black because it is very prominent and easy to read.

Rough Cut Evaluation- Abandoned Camp

(need to upload the rough cut, we didn't as youtube was being very slow.)

When we uploaded the footage, and re watched over it, we realised we still have a lot of filming left to do. We put the rough cut together starting off with a black scream, of which we hear a bus pulling over, in order to show how the campers get to their destination. We need to re-film this sound in order to be able to use it in our final production.
We then put up the birds eye view, which we were please with as we thought the camera would not be steady enough or that we would not be able to get a good shot. The camera was panning as the campers went past the tree.
The next few shots were off the campers crossing over the stream, which when watching we realised that there were members of the public walking there dogs which could be seen. Therefore when we go to film again, we will redo theses scenes.
There was  a point of view shot from the unknown character of which we see a close up of a pale hand. When speaking to Sir, he mentioned we should have something to show that there is someone watching over them before the hand comes in.
We then see one of the campus leaving the friends and discovering a "groaning" noise over from behind the bushes. From this we realised that the speed the camper is walking before she heard the noise and after is the same, when really she should be panicking and be scared over what the noise could be. This was another worry for us.
The ending of the rough cut was a disappointment as the make up on the vampire was not on show, and the way he was lying was not realistic at all. Even if some of the convention of a horror movie where seen throughout this rough cut.

From this it helped us see what we need to re-film and also gave us more ideas on how to develop our storyline.

True Blood; The Art of the title. (Finally Completed-ish)

Image One;
The extreme close up of the alligators eye shows how deadly the programme is. It connotes what type of story lines the viewers may see and also shows how animals may relate to some of these story lines.

Image Two;
The close up of the snake with its mouth open connotes many things. The first one being that it is biting to get the venom out of something, relating to vampires and their thirst for blood. From this image we can assume that true blood will have vampires in it.

Image Three;
A long shot of the car in the car in the forest could shot that within the story there are many journeys. Where some do not end up being a good one. Due to its surroundings, which looks as if the car has been crashed into a forest, we can only assume that it is stuck and cannot get out.

Image Four;

An extreme close up of a boys mouth, covered in red goo, which looks like berries. Due to the teeth, it looks as if this boy is still very young, as he has milk teeth, and they are still growing. As he is still a child, it shows that there is a loss of innocence, as the berries connote blood, relating back to a vampires thirst of human blood. The setting of the picture is in
the wild, showing that no one is what they are seen as.

Image Five;
A shot of the full moon, at its brightest moment of the night, easily connoting vampire iconography, as this is the time they are seen out. This may also represent when most of the action story lines take place within True Blood, happening at night time.

Image Six; The medium close up of two women praying shows two different sides of the programme. The first one being that True Blood is a sinful programme and the other could be that they are the victims trying to get help or either are begging

Image Seven;
This is a close up of a plant, specifically, the venus fly trap. There is a lot of resemblance to fangs once again connoting the theme of vampires.

Image Eight; This image is the titling of the programme, which has a red background connoting death and blood, relating to vampires.

Image Nine; The last image is hard to tell, but it looks like there are two people wearing white, either washing, cleansing or even saving  someone.

Abandoned Camp Development

i haven't finished the script, due to other revision, therefore thought there was no point uploading half a script. And so once the opening scene is finished, i shall put it up!
